What Is the DV Lottery?
The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, commonly known as the DV Lottery, was established by the Immigration Act of 1990. Each year, the U.S. government makes up to 55,000 immigrant visas available through a random computer-generated drawing.
The program’s purpose is to diversify the immigrant population in the United States by attracting individuals from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the U.S. It is one of the most accessible pathways to permanent residency.
No Cost to Enter
Submitting an entry is entirely free through the official government website. No fees are charged at any stage of the lottery process.
Equal Opportunity
Every eligible entry has an equal random chance of selection. There is no advantage based on who helps you submit or when you submit during the window.
Family-Inclusive
Selected applicants can bring their spouse and unmarried children under 21 to the United States as permanent residents.

Beware of DV Lottery Scams
The U.S. Department of State will never email you to notify you of selection, ask for payment via wire transfer, or guarantee a Green Card. The only official website for entry is dvprogram.state.gov. Many fraudulent websites charge fees or collect personal information under false pretenses. If you believe you have encountered a scam, report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
